Audi introduced the battery-electric Audi A3 e-tron US pilot program at TED2012 in Long Beach, California. The A3 e-tron BEV pilot program will run in the San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington DC, and Denver markets throughout the year and provide actionable feedback and telematics data to Audi engineering teams in the US and Germany.

Beginning in 2024 the cars will be powered by hybrid engines. One such company is Capstone Engineered Solutions, which is backing the No. Renewable natural gas made from organic waste is not a fossil fuel and does not involve drilling, making it appealing. Many of the team transporters will also be using biofuels.

Plugging into the SoCal grid, in this case, SoCal Edison, this PHEV tug is significantly cleaner than its diesel burning brethren.

NREL presented its initial calorimeter—initially fabricated by Calorimetry Sciences Corporation and later improved upon by NREL—at the Long Beach Battery Conference in January 1998. The new isothermal calorimeter will be based on patent-pending technology developed by a team of NREL researchers.

When engineers specify components that aren’t automotive-rated, they are then forced to spend time in extensive testing to make sure their vehicles don’t catch fire. It takes so long to write a standard, for everybody in the industry to come together and come to an agreement. The standards committees just don’t move that fast.
