BMW i announced a home stationary energystorage system solution integrating its BMW i3 vehicle battery at EVS 29 in Montréal. The system has been designed to be integrated into the house energy supply chain. In 2013, BMW and the University of San Diego installed a micro grid application with Battery 2nd Life MINIE batteries.
The BMW Concept ActiveE follows the all-electric MINIE as the second large-scale electric vehicle test program to be conducted in the hands of interested customers. Intensive use of this energy recuperation process by the motor increases the range by up to 20%.
The study has two parts, a managed charge pilot program involving BMW i3 owners and a battery second life energystorage system. In the managed charge pilot program, select BMW i3 owners will allow PG&E to request a delay in the charging of their vehicles by up to an hour, when grid loads are at their peak.
The study has two parts: (1) a managed charge pilot program involving BMW i3 owners; and (2) a battery second-life energystorage system. The battery second life portion of the project involves a full-scale stationary energy system built from eight used MINIE batteries to storeenergy and return it to the power grid.
