In one of the papers related to the work, a team from Imperial College London (the academic lead on the project), noted: To date, two main strategies have been applied to the fabrication of multifunctional structural energy storage devices. Earlier work has been focused on multifunctional structural batteries and dielectric capacitors.

While its emphasis is on all-electric drive systems for urban traffic, Daimler Buses is introducing the Mercedes-Benz Intouro with a hybrid module for inter-city transport as well as for a combination of regular-route and touring coach services. The hybrid module is also making its debut in an inter-city bus in the new Intouro K.

Lithium polymer battery packs from Corvus Energy were recently installed in Europe’s first hybrid tugboat, the RotorTug RT Adriaan of KOTUG, an international maritime service provider headquartered in The Netherlands. A study of a hybrid tugboat, funded by the California Air Resources Board (ARB) and conducted by UC Riverside, found that when compared with a conventional diesel-powered version, a hybrid tugboat can reduce emissions of PM 2.5 kWh of energy when fully charged. modes shore power, dock, transit, ship assist and barge move.

Sanyo Electric has completed installation of two Solar Parking Lots for hybrid bikes, incorporating solar panels and lithium-ion battery systems, and also provided 100 electric hybrid “eneloop bikes”, in Setagaya, Tokyo Japan. Sanyo is using its new Standard Battery System for Power Storage announced in November 2009 in the system.
