This analysis examined the effect of flight distance on greenhouse gas emissions per passenger, and compared emissions from flying different distances with annual emissions from driving. Greenhouse gas emissions were examined for 17 nonstop flights with round-trip distances ranging from 131 miles to 19,040 miles.

New San Diego Albertsons Using UTC Power Fuel Cell for Nearly 90% of its Electricity

A new Albertsons supermarket in the San Diego, California community of Clairemont is generating nearly 90% of the electricity it needs with a PureCell 400 kW fuel cell from UTC Power, a United Technologies Corp. The PureCell 400 system uses a Fuel Processor (reformer) to reform natural gas to hydrogen to feed the Fuel Cell Stack.

California Energy Commission awards more than $5.5M for green transportation projects and $1.8M for 20 energy research projects

In addition, CEC awarded $1,815,274 to fund 20 energy research projects in the areas of transportation, electricity, and natural gas. Its benefits include the reduction of an estimated 32,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually—roughly equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions produced by 5,850 gasoline vehicles in a year.
