BYD will provide the Colombian capital of Bogotá with a fleet of 379 pure electric buses, in a deal awarded by the capital’s TransMilenio SA mass transport authority. This fleet will begin operations in September 2020, giving Bogotá the largest electric bus fleet on the continent and one of the largest in the world.
The buses are expected to be deployed along 15 routes in Bogotá’s Fontibon district in 2021 and thereafter 150,000 residents along the routes will be able to enjoy pure electric and zero-emission transportation services. Along with the previously-announced 470 buses, the new batch includes 9m- and 12m-long buses.
Through zero emission hydrogen fuel cell system applications commercialized by Plug Power, including industrial material handling, on road commercial fleet vehicles and port applications (air, marine, and rail) in which CLH has a strong presence, both partners expect to impact the growth of the renewable hydrogen market in Spain and Europe.
