The City of New York will invest $420 million in electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, and alternative fuels to accelerate the transition to an all-electric municipal vehicle fleet. All light-duty, medium-duty, and non-emergency heavy-duty vehicles will be converted to electric by 2035.

Tesla has spent $18 million to expand its Supercharging presence in New York City as it acquired a lot in the borough of Queens on August 16. Perhaps one of the most difficult parts of being an electric vehicle owner in New York City is the fact that charging is in short supply, leading to a problematic ownership experience.

FLO | AddEnergie has begun shipping 120 EV chargers out of its factory in Shawinigan, Québec, destined for FLO network’s first deployment in New York City. Of the total, 100 chargers will be installed at 34 public curbside locations over the coming months across all of New York’s five boroughs.

Tesla is combatting Uber and Lyft congestion at its Superchargers in New York City with Supercharger fees after the ride-sharing services have backed up EV chargers. Revel has been expanding its network of EV chargers throughout New York City and plans to open more stations this year.

New York City Transit (NYCT), part of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (“MTA”), has awarded New Flyer with a contract for 15 low floor sixty-foot Xcelsior CHARGE battery-electric, heavy-duty transit buses (or a total of 30 equivalent units or “EUs”).

Nissan and New York City have launched a new electric vehicle taxi pilot with the Nissan LEAF. This pilot program, which puts six LEAF taxis into service beginning this spring, will help Nissan, the city, the taxi industry and the public understand how EVs can be integrated into future taxi fleets.
