In order for engines to last as long as they’re designed to, we need to reassess maintenance practices for this type of operations. Improved fuel economy over SAE 15W-40 conventional oils. Delo 400 SD SAE 15W-30 will meet a range of OEM requirements for engine oil, including Kenworth MX, Peterbilt MX, Cummins, Mack and Volvo.

The four trucks, based on the Peterbilt Model 320 Hybrid with Labrie body, will operate in daily curbside recycling duty and are expected to provide up to 30% improvements in fuel economy and emissions and significant reductions maintenance costs. Testing has shown a significant improvement in maintenance costs.

Fuel economy is measured as MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent). Peterbilt also worked with Toyota and offers its Model 579HFC for sale. Level 3, DC Fast Charging is not available. Charging nightly and driving under 29 miles will mean less need for hydrogen fuel, which is currently available at one of about 50 stations in California.

Kenworth Truck Company and Peterbilt Motor Company will expanding their alternative fuel line-up by offering the Cummins Westport ISX12 G heavy duty natural gas engine ( earlier post ) for use in regional haul, vocational and refuse markets. Peterbilt uses the ISL G and Westport GX engine. Next-generation Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks.

Toyota (in partnership with Peterbilt and others), Hyundai and Nikola are the early leaders in hydrogen being a fuel source for over-the-road trucks, highlighted by what they are doing at the Port of Long Beach and elsewhere in California. A maintenance-free car for about $21,000 sounds pretty enticing.
