The hybrids studied represented a second-generation,an evolution from UPS’ original 50 Eaton hybrids that NREL documented in earlier studies.

UPS is targeting a 20% improvement in fuel economy for its US package delivery fleet from 2000 to 2020. UPS has set a new automotive goal to improve the miles per gallon (MPG) performance of its entire US package delivery fleet by 20 percent between 2000 and 2020. The hybrid drive system, developed by Eaton Corp.

Funded by the DOE’s Advanced Vehicle Testing Activity (AVTA), NREL’s Fleet Test & Evaluation (FT&E) team performed a 12-month evaluation of six MY 2007 P70D hybrid vans and six MY 2006 P70D standard diesel vans at a UPS location in Phoenix, collecting and analyzing fuel economy, maintenance and other vehicle performance data.
