Rotterdam Taxi Centre (RTC), one of the biggest taxi operators in the Netherlands, is switching to electric taxis and has put into service two BYD e6 models, following successful extensive operation with an e6 model. The BYD e6 is a five-passenger, crossover vehicle powered by the BYD Fe battery (lithium-iron phosphate).

BYD announced the launch of Hong Kong’s first all-electric taxi fleet using the BYD e6 electric cross-over sedan. Hongkong first pure electric taxi fleet. Hongkong first pure electric taxi fleet. Express del Futuro, a partner-operator of Transmilenio, and BYD unveiled plans for an electric bus fleet in Bogotá, Colombia. In December 2012, BYD Ltd and Praco Didacol (BYD’s Colombian distribution partner) announced that BYD e6s would being placed into Taxi service in Q1 2013 in the Colombian capital as a pilot. In 2008 the company released a test fleet of 450 Mini-E vehicles and is getting ready to announce its second phase. In March, BYD chief executive officer Wang Chuanfu announced that in the first half of 2010 the company will sell only 100 e6 cars, to a taxi company in Shenzhen. The third phase will be released around 2015.

Last week the company announced that it would bring its five-seat E6 electric car in small numbers to the US next year. Beyond manufacturing, subsidies of 50,000 yuan were offered to taxi fleets and local government agencies in 13 cities for each hybrid or electric vehicle they purchased, while research subsidies were also increased.

The company also announced in June that it will build electric family sized minivans, SUVs and fleet vans with DOE funding (see article ) and it has formed a partnership with Daimler to provide powertrain components for the electric Smart car.
