The new TwinAir family engine combines the concept of downsizing (displacement and weight reduction) with technologies including supercharging with high-efficiency turbocharger; integration of the exhaust manifold in the cylinder head; and the new MultiAir intake valve control system. MultiAir Turbo Petrol. Earlier post.).
Among the changes in the new Juke are a new design at the front and rear with greater emphasis on both premium refinement and sporty design cues; a new downsized 1.2-liter liter DIG-T petrol engine, which replaces the outgoing 117 ps (115 hp) 1.6-liter 1), improved low friction technologies and cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation.
“For the first time we have combined spray-guided direct petrol injection with turbocharging. With this high-tech package we are “best in class” with respect to fuel consumption, output and torque.” ” —Friedrich Eichler, Head of Engine and Powertrain Development at Mercedes-AMG The older AMG 6.3
One compact KP35 high-pressure turbocharger generates boost pressure at low exhaust gas flow rates for rapid acceleration at low engine speeds without delay or turbo lag. As engine speed increases, the exhaust gas stream is split, and the larger K04 low-pressure turbocharger works in series with the KP35 high-pressure turbocharger.
This combination of efficiency and dynamic performance is enabled by the systematic interplay of ACT, downsizing (reduced engine displacement plus direct injection and charging) and BlueMotion Technology (Stop/Start system, battery regeneration). TSI in the Polo BlueGT is the top engine of the entirely new EA211 series of petrol engines.
The unit can be applied to naturally-aspirated or forced induction engines—though most likely will be applied to downsized turbocharged engines as an additional unit to the existing turbocharger. The exhaust gas can reach temperatures greater than 900 °C, whereas the turbine upper functional limit is 850 °C.
In the familiar gasoline engines of the previous EA111 series, the (‘hot’) exhaust side was at the front, and the engines were mounted with a forward tilt. The advantage is that the exhaust line, driveshafts and gearbox mounting position can be standardized. At the same time, it is now tilted towards the rear.
Especially in regard to battery technology, downsizing, efficiency improvements with the turbocharged petrol engine and, in particular, for energy recovery systems. We didn’t look for role models, instead we struck out on our own path. Earlier post.).
As part of its efforts to go green, Volkswagen is placing a clear emphasis on downsizing as it proved with two new engines at the 30 th Vienna Engine Symposium. The manufacturer has introduced a 1.2litre TSI petrol engine and a 1.6litre TDI diesel, both of which will be available to order with the new Polo and Golf later this year.
The new high-powered TDCi diesel engine follows the downsizing trend we’ve led with our EcoBoost petrol technology. liter TDCi variants feature a revised engine block, and new cylinder-head and fuel injection designs, and Ford’s lean NO x trap exhaust after-treatment system. A powerful new twin sequential turbocharged 2.0-liter
The official line from Maruti Suzuki has always been that the market for diesel cars is dwindling—the rollout of tighter BS6 emission norms in April 2020 made them much costlier, and the price gap between petrol and diesel fuels has narrowed to the point that diesel has lost its running-cost advantage. When Maruti Suzuki announced its new 1.5-litre
Known as the HyBoost project, this two-year research programme announced recently by the Technology Strategy Board, aims to demonstrate a cost-effective, ultra-efficient petrol engine in a C-segment passenger car. A new project has set the ambitious goal of reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 30-40 per cent.
litre Z-series powertrain, which now features a three-cylinder layout for the petrol engine, christened Z12E, a downsize from the outgoing 1.2-litre, litre Z-series engine gets a lambda air-flow sensor, and a high-porosity exhaust, thereby scoring high on its thermal efficiency gains. litre, four-cylinder, K12C unit.
