SAE International updates J3016 standard defining autonomous vehicles; free download

Recently, the US Department of Transportation (DoT) adopted SAE International’s six levels of automation outlined in SAE J3016 for use in its “Federal Automated Vehicles Policy.” ( Earlier post.). Because of the global importance and impact of the standard, SAE now will offer the J3016 standard free-of-charge on the SAE website.

Transport Canada issues emergency directive to increase rail safety following Lac-Mégantic disaster

Transport Canada announced an emergency directive pursuant to section 33 of the Railway Safety Act to increase rail safety. Although the cause of the accident in Lac-Mégantic remains unknown at this time, the agency said, it is moving forward to build upon the safety advisories received last week from the Transportation Safety Board.

NTSB 3rd investigative update on Boeing 787 battery fire in Boston; battery not overcharged

SAE International and ISO collaborate to update and refine SAE Levels of Driving Automation; SAE J3016

The SAE J3016 Technical Standards Committee worked collaboratively with partners from ISO/TC 204 Intelligent Transport Systems in a joint working group including representatives from nine countries to address carefully common concerns with previous versions of the Recommended Practice.
