At these prices, people are buying the "environmental feature" -- they want to be among the first owners of the worlds cleanest extended-range vehicles. Today youd do it to be one of the first to drive the worlds cleanest extended range vehicle; in the future, youll do it because its an obvious and affordable win!
Nonetheless, I do agree that it wastes of energy, reduces range and should NOT be mandatory. a cyclist is much quieter, and these cars do have horns still for people what step out in front. Must be nice to know that deafies are actually smarter than those hearie idiots! I know this and I speak for them. because I am one.
Merc wants the electric smart to perform badly, to have a short range and little power, so that it dosent eat up other products in the lineup. It is probably possible to make a 20k electric smart that outperforms most other cars on the road in everything except range and top speed. For this to happen there has to be a detuning process.
