On a larger efficiency scale, the new S-Class in its first year will offer two hybrid versions, a gasoline model and a diesel variant: the S 400 HYBRID, S 300 BlueTEC HYBRID, S 500, and S 350 BlueTEC. These soon will be followed by the S 500 Plug-In HYBRID—the first S-Class with a fuel consumption lower than 4l/100 km (59 mpg US).

At launch in October 2022, there will initially be a choice of two gasoline and two diesel engines from the BMW Group’s new modular generation of Efficient Dynamics engines. Plug-in hybrid models with increased electric range, gasoline and diesel engines with 48V mild hybrid technology. BMW has unveiled its new BMW X1.

The CX-60 is the first of Mazda’s Large Product group models, and offers (European specification model) e-Skyactiv PHEV, Mazda’s first plug-in hybrid system featuring a 2.5-liter The Mazda CX-60 powertrain line-up features three new engines: the e-Skyactiv G PHEV unit and two straight-six engines: a 3.3 kWh battery pack.

In the analysis, EPA uses overall fuel economy in mpg equivalent (mpge) and tailpipe CO 2 emission values. In MY 2013, there were 11 EVs and 4 PHEVs available in the market; MY 2014 has 12 (counting the Tesla Model S 60 and 80 as one) EVs on the market and 10 PHEVs, along with the lone CNG car, the Honda Civic.

In Europe, Mazda announced that it will add an all-new e-Skyactiv D diesel engine to the Mazda CX-60 line-up in 2023, joining the PHEV CX-60, which is available to order now. The new diesel powertrain that will make its debut in the CX-60 is a Mazda first—a 3.3-liter mpg US with CO 2 emissions of 137g/km.
