The 70’s oil crisis came and went; the loss of USA domestic market share occurred and a recent bankruptcy wave that hit the industry.

The car came straight to Omaha from the Detroit auto show. BYDs breakthrough all-electric E6, photographed at this years Detroit auto show. MidAmericans David Sokol, BYDs Wang, and company advisor Li Lu flew with Sokol from Detroit to Omaha so that Wang could meet Buffett in person. Electric cars will be one answer.

But after interviewing Ford’s Nancy Gioia at the recent Detroit Auto show, I’m now unsure of both the timescales involved, or how much the power and auto companies are behind it as a fundamental concept. Oil is the alternative. Are we going to burn more oil, natural gas, or (gasp) coal to produce it?
