The prototype vehicle, called Project PUMA (Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility), is designed to ease congestion and pollution problems in cities. It is based on the Segway Personal Transporter but holds two people, instead of one, and lets them sit, instead of stand. You could even call it Personal On-demand Driving.

The initial funding has come from serious investors, including Idealab, the business incubator of entrepreneur Bill Gross, as well as google.org, the green-investments arm of Google. That's about all I am concerned with personally.

The electricity for recharging has to come from somewhere, which means power plants. My personal criteria for an EV is 80/80 MPH/miles range, but thats because drivers either go 80 or stopped around here. While Id been harsh on the need for outside recharge stations in the past, actually an intermediate charge may extend battery life.
