the air district will demonstrate specially designed battery electric taxis that can use switchable batteries to give the vehicles essentially unlimited range. Two battery switching stations, at the international airports in San Francisco and San Jose, and six taxis that use switchable batteries will be used.

Palo Alto’s Better Place just announced that it will be conducting a 90-day test of its lithium-ion battery switching system with Tokyo’s Nihon Kotsu taxi company. Southwest Airlines and Archer Aviation have announced a partnership to develop plans for electric air taxi networks that will use Archer’s electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft at California airports where Southwest has a presence. The additional vertiports will likely be located in Napa, San Jose, Oakland and Livermore.
