Ford says the engine can deliver up to 15% better fuel economy than comparable six-cylinder engines. Class-exclusive Active Grille Shutters are designed to help improve MKC fuel efficiency at highway speeds. The three-port IEM and twin-scroll turbo design really opened us up to have outstanding power and refinement.

SABIC has introduced a thermoplastic roof fairing concept that can potentially reduce annual fuel consumption of a heavy-duty truck by at least 3%. SABIC’s design concept is aerodynamically optimized to deflect air by accelerating airflow through and across the top and sides of the roof fairing.

Allison Transmission has unveiled a new fully automatic 10-speed transmission for tractor units at the 2011 Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Kentucky. The novel gearbox, set to debut in North America in late 2012, has been designed specifically to maximize productivity and fuel efficiency during both cruising and stop-start operation.

To produce the vehicles, Ford is converting three truck and SUV plants to car plants—Michigan Assembly, Cuautitlan Assembly in Mexico, which begins building the new Fiesta subcompact early next year; and Louisville (Ky.) Michigan Assembly Plant will be designated as the state’s first automotive technology anchor site.
