Toyota has launched the new model RAV4 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) ( earlier post ) through dealerships in Japan. Since its debut in 1994, RAV4 has pioneered the crossover SUV market, and remains the market leader. The fifth generation RAV4 was released in April 2019.

Only available in the US beginning in March of 2021, the hot-selling Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) was apparently the top-selling PHEV in the US last year. From where I sit, a new PHEV from Jeep outselling the Toyota RAV4 Prime is actually pretty impressive. Rick Deneau, Stellantis. Flip a coin.

Volvo hit a new record with 22,266 electrified vehicles (including PHEVs) sold last month, accounting for 44% of total sales. The EX30 is already rolling out in Europe, Japan, and Brazil. The Swedish automaker is also launching its first three-row electric SUV , the EX90. Fully electric cars also set a new record.

Why might the top-selling EV in Japan make a lot of sense in U.S. A recent drive of the Nissan Sakura , the bestselling EV in Japan, had us seeing how smaller EVs might help us work with the infrastructure we have rather than hung up on the issues of charging super-size heavyweight EVs. big cities too?

Registrations of SUVs fell by 48% to 338,300 units while increasing their market share to almost 40%. For example, volume only fell by 5% for the Volvo XC40, which became the top-selling premium SUV in March, and the Range Rover Evoque registered 5,700 units, down by 3%. Some models performed better than others.
