A survey from Cox Automotive estimates that electric vehicle sales in the US auto market could surpass 1 million units for the first time in 2023. Electric cars currently account for about 6.5% As per inventory data from Cox, the nationwide supply of electric vehicles in stock swelled by almost 350% this year to over 92,000 units.

Elements of the new plan include: GM will sell or phase out the Hummer brand by 31 March, with a final resolution no later than 2010. GM’s dealer count is also projected to be further reduced, from 6,246 in 2008 to 4,700 by 2012, and to 4,100 by 2014. GM will have a total of 36 nameplates in 2012, down 25% from 2008 levels.

Scout Motors, the startup electric-truck maker owned by Volkswagen, took the wraps off concepts for its first two 4×4 models outside Nashville on Thursday evening. It’s not a plug-in hybrid but a range-extended EV, meaning the gasoline engine powers a generator that recharges the battery, but cannot power the wheels mechanically.
