Since then, much of the dust has settled on the Capitol as it continues to implement qualifying terms for tax credits , continuously shifting what used EVs do and do not qualify. Conversions are mostly for the Prius, with a few for the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner hybrid SUVs. At these prices, people are buying the "environmental feature" -- they want to be among the first owners of the worlds cleanest extended-range vehicles. They are early adopters, buying "Version 1.0"

Fuel cell cars should be plug-in hybrids so that the fuel cell is used only for extended range, and the fuel cell stack and hydrogen storage can be smaller. Toyota has had a battery recycling program since 1998 and even offers dealers a $200 bounty to ensure batteries arent just thrown away (described at end of linked document).

Fisker $80,000 Karma series luxury 50-mile range series PHEV, S Sunset convertible version.Partnering with Quantum Technologies. Establishing dealer network. Ford Escape PHEV-40 around 2012. First Escape PHEV delivered to SCE Nov 2007; 20 in 2008-2009. Batteries not ready. Has shown some concept fuel-cell PHEVs.
