Now nominally retired and living in Portugal, he remains active in the infrastructure space as a consultant, and closely follows the development of the EV charging ecosystem. If we’re going to hit the numbers we need to hit for fleet adoption, we need as many places for those vehicles to recharge as possible. Any change is hard.

Their solution to the cost of thenew-generation batteries is to separate them from the car itself. Buyerswill purchase the car – at about the same price as a conventional model –but lease the batteries from a third-party energy supplier for a monthly feeequivalent to the fuel costs for an economical petrol or diesel car.
