Researchers look to fire ants for sources of biodiesel feedstock

In a paper in the journal Fuel , they note that the yield of ant oil is 16% dry weight and contains most of the fatty acids also found in other biomass resources. The development of a high capacity method for production of oils from lignocellulosic material or even simpler carbohydrates could reduce the materials cost of producing biodiesel.
