Capstone Turbine Corporation is working with domestic heavy duty truck manufacturers Kenworth and Peterbilt to demonstrate Class 7 and Class 8 microturbine range extended series hybrid trucks.

Capstone Turbine Corporation successfully completed track testing of a Kenworth Class 7 hybrid electric work truck using its 65kW microturbine as an on-board range extender. The company will add 15 Kenworth hybrid single-axle tractors to its existing fleet of 20 side-bay trucks and two straight trucks. In March 2009, Coca-Cola Enterprises ordered 150 Kenworth T370 diesel-electric tractors and 35 Kenworth T370 hybrid trucks, all of which will be on the road this year.

Eaton Corporation announced that customers of its hybrid systems have collectively accumulated more than 100 million miles of service, reducing fuel consumption by 4 million gallons of diesel fuel and harmful emissions by 40,000 metric tons.
