Volvo Cars is the first car maker to sign up to the SteelZero initiative , which aims to increase demand for fossil-free steel and accelerate a transition to carbon neutrality in the global steel industry. The SteelZero signing is the latest initiative by Volvo Cars to address one of car making’s most intensive sources of CO2 emissions.

Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser AS, a division of Nel ASA, has received a purchase order for a 20MW alkaline water electrolyzer from Ovako , a leading European manufacturer of engineering steel. The fossil-free hydrogen will replace the use of fossil propane gas currently used in the heating furnaces.

Aside from a box lunch, a couple of bottles of water and two absolutely delicious chocolate chip cookies, GCC received no compensation, expense reimbursement or branded merchandise from GM to attend the event. Going forward, GM plans to spend proportionally less of its marketing budget on the corporate identity and more on the vehicle brands.
