British Airways has entered a partnership with Velocys to design a series of waste plants that convert household waste into renewable jet fuel to power its fleet. As well as helping the airline industry reduce its carbon emissions this initiative will also significantly reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.

Redeem was the first commercially available RNG vehicle fuel, derived from capturing biogenic methane that is produced from the decomposition of organic waste from dairies, landfills, and wastewater treatment plants. In 2015, the City built a private CNG fueling station and started converting its fleet of 70 refuse trucks.

With biofuels, if you look at the relative efficiency of converting solar energy into biofuel versus solar energy into hydrogen, it’s not even a comparison, it’s ridiculous, it’s 500 times difference. Biological organisms are not great at converting sunlight into energy. Is it worth it to go through all that trouble to get that?
