The Port of Long Beach received a $30.1-million million grant from the US Department of Transportation to deploy the nation’s largest fleet of manually operated, zero-emissions cargo handling equipment at a single marine terminal. Stäubli Electrical Connectors, a leading manufacturer of electrical connector solutions, has signed an agreement with SSA Marine to provide automatic charging stations for 33 terminal tractors at the Port of Long Beach. This project will create the largest automated electric vehicle charging program of any port in the United States.

More than 1,800 yard trucks operate at the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles—more than half of all cargo-handling equipment (CHE) at these ports. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) funded the project through a grant. Other project partners are Frontier Energy and ZEN Clean Energy Solutions.

Like the Recovery Act-funded projects, the annual Clean Cities projects include grants for vehicles, infrastructure, and education. The project will convert local landfill gas (LFG), a renewable fuel source, to compressed natural gas and develop five CNG fueling stations throughout the metro-Atlanta area. Total DOE award: $14,994,183.

kWh NiMH plug-in hybrid (PHEV) conversion kit that enables all-electric mode driving at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour (until the battery pack is depleted) in a converted Prius. Clean Energy has begun a major fueling infrastructure upgrade for trucks operating in the Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach. MDB Trucking has signed a 2-year fuel agreement for an anticipated 360,000 gallons of Redeem to fuel 24 additional CNG trucks at its Port of Long Beach operation. Clean Energy Fuels Corp.
