Project Volt Gas Volt is based on a long-term financing plan and the use of existing technologies for the large-scale conversion of surplus renewable electricity to methane, with subsequent reuse. Stored methane could become the “battery” for renewable energy, simultaneously making hydraulic fracturing obsolete, they proposed.

The hydrogen gas will be produced locally, using solar cells. This very interesting project represents a unique opportunity to test the fuel cell technology for conversion of energy to our electric powertrains in a challenging customer operating environment. Bloomberg New Energy Finance reports that clean hydrogen could cut up to 34% of global greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels and industry. Now, most of these materials are stored or sent back to landfills.
