OSU hybrid “solar battery” uses photo-assisted charging to improve performance of Li-air batteries; “negative overpotential”

Researchers at The Ohio State University have developed a novel strategy to improve the efficiency and performance of non-aqueous lithium-oxygen (Li-air) batteries. During the charging process, the reduced form of the redox shuttle, M red , is first converted to M ox on the oxygen electrode, which in turn oxidizes the Li 2 O 2.
