The project is funded as part of the showcase “Electromobility Connects” Bavaria-Saxony by the federal government. In recuperation, the electric motor functions as a generator to recharge the battery pack when the driver takes his or her foot off the gas pedal.

The feedback from customers testing the MINI E and the BMW ActiveE will be fed directly into series production of the MCV, which the BMW Group will be launching under a new sub-brand in 2013. Intensive use of this recuperation of energy via the motor also results in a range increase of up to 20%.

At least GM sent this nifty printed banner explaining all about the new J1772 industry standard recharging plug. They even had a real plug connected to their toy car on the exhibit hall. Same truth of engineers who have actually talked to real drivers is in evidence with the BMW Mini-E.
