Toyota, Mazda, and Subaru conducted a press event designed to explain why they’re walking away from full-blown electrification. According to Automotive News , the conference lasted roughly three hours and included numerous prototype vehicles and engine designs. But he offered little new insight into its future evolution.

Although Toyota has been working on Li-ion batteries for strong hybrids, and has had 126 Priuses equipped with Li-ion packs on the road for the past three years, NiMH cost performance wins compared to lithium for this application, Kuroda said. Toyota has been able to bring down the cost of the NiMH pack in the Prius “dramatically”, he said.

As I said, the amount of activity at any one given auto-show media day might not provide great insight to the bigger picture. The Gravity was the biggest star of the show -- again, among those that got a press conference -- but the Camry slipped under the radar. At least in my opinion.

I have seen the future and it is a new car electric car from Nissan. You might as well call most of the cars they’re selling “future clunkers.&# Talk about a company screwing up its own brand future… Contrast that with Nissan’s sincere and very prescient effort to delver the real deal. Really Ford?
