The pilot project, which will form part of Volkswagen’s operations in Rwanda, was officially announced today by Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Group South Africa and responsible for the Sub-Sahara Africa Region, in the presence of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Rwanda, Right Honourable Dr. Edouard Ngirente.
The Volkswagen brand has founded “Volkswagen Mobility Solutions Rwanda”, a company based in Rwanda. Going forward, the brand will be focusing in particular on new app-based mobility services such as car sharing and ride hailing in Rwanda. Overall, Volkswagen and its partner companies will create up to 1,000 jobs in Rwanda.
