A two-speed electric motor positioned on the rear axle supports the 2.0-liter liter turbo engine that is mounted longitudinally at the front; this is the most powerful production four-cylinder in the world. The electric powertrain and the high-performance battery with 400 volts are AMG-exclusive, in-house developments.

The first performance hybrid from Mercedes-AMG—AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE—is entering series production for the European market, drawing upon technologies from Formula 1. The concept includes a distinctive drive layout with an electric motor and battery on the rear axle as well as a high-performance battery developed in-house.
