The wave disc engine, a new implementation of wave rotor technology, was earlier developed by the Michigan State group in collaboration with researchers from the Warsaw Institute of Technology. The WDG also can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by as much as 95 percent in comparison to modern internal combustion vehicle engines.

Heat hybrid. A cryogenic engine such as the Dearman engine could also be used as a heat hybrid in combination with an internal combustion engine or hydrogen fuel cell to convert waste heat into additional shaft power at high levels of efficiency, reducing both fuel consumption and emissions.

Additional future applications may include marine, light-duty farm and construction equipment, light aircraft, and the hybrid electric vehicle market. The OX2 engine achieves considerable torque at all stages through its operating range. The power electronics is the last mile of the OX2 engine/generator development.
