Green and Smart Mobility Joint Stock Company (GSM) officially began operating the first pure electric taxi service in Vietnam: Green SM Taxi. Green SM Taxi will first operate in Hanoi, followed by a nationwide expansion to at least five provinces and cities this year, in line with the company’s strategic plan.

Mobileye, an Intel Company, and WILLER, one of the largest transportation operators in Japan, Taiwan and the Southeast Asian region, have formed a strategic collaboration to launch an autonomous robotaxi service in Japan and markets across Southeast Asia, including Taiwan. WILLER also partners with 150 local transportation providers in Japan.

It appears that over half of Vietnamese electric vehicle startup VinFast’s sales during the first half of 2023 were to a taxi firm that’s owned by VinGroup, the automaker’s parent company. The surges in VinFast stock have been so notable that the company briefly became the world’s third-most highly valued automaker.

The company also revealed its VF Wild electric pickup concept at CES as it looks to expand into new markets. VinFast confirmed the VF 3 will be sold globally.

The company will make batteries for EVs at the plant in the city of Thoothukudi, one of the people said, adding that this was separate from its previously announced plans to assemble vehicles shipped in parts from Vietnam. An announcement by the company on the new plant is expected in coming days, two people said.
