ExxonMobil said it made a discovery at Whiptail in the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana. Whiptail-1 is being drilled in 5,889 feet (1,795 meters) of water by the Stena DrillMAX. Whiptail-2, which is located 3 miles northeast of Whiptail-1, is currently being drilled in 6,217 feet (1,895 meters) of water by the Noble Don Taylor.

The well was drilled in 5,659 feet (1,725 meters) of water and is located approximately 6.8 ExxonMobil and its key contractors have spent approximately US$388 million with more than 800 local companies since 2015.

ExxonMobil has made three new discoveries offshore Guyana and increased its estimate of the recoverable resource for the Stabroek Block to nearly 11 billion oil-equivalent barrels. The three discoveries are southeast of the Liza and Payara developments and bring to five the discoveries made by ExxonMobil in Guyana in 2022.
