I get it – sound deadening equals fuel-economy killing weight. Fueleconomy is listed at 52 mpg across the board for city/highway/combined. mpg -- and the computer wasn't reset when I picked up the car. Either way, good numbers though real-world fueleconomy often falls short of the EPA rating, as it did here.
It’s comfortable enough on a road trip, and the fueleconomy is better than most non-hybrid compact crossovers. But when I was in college and just starting my career, worrying about whether my car would get me to class or work without drama consumed entirely too much of my day.
The Toyota Prius has pretty much always been focused solely on fueleconomy. Driving dynamics took a back seat to fueleconomy. If you bought a Prius (or leased one) you likely bought it for fueleconomy – or maybe because it was affordable. The design was driven by the desire to maximize MPGs.
The Explorer excels at towing and off-road work, all while still being a competent commutercar. It seems plausible that retail customers were looking at the fueleconomy advantages offered by the hybrid and decided it wasn’t worth the extra money.
Likely to appeal to many motorists from newly qualified young drivers looking for something with serious street cred to those looking for an economical and environmentally friendly commutercar or just run-about town small car.
Drive the car gently and the EcoBoost is quiet. This version of the Mustang is really a sporty commutercar for those who don’t need to place adults in the backseat often – it’s not a pain in the ass in urban driving, but it can hold its own on a canyon road. The passenger seat is especially accommodating to the long of leg.
