Ford and Azure Dynamics to Collaborate on Transit Connect Electric for Europe

Ford Motor Company and Azure Dynamics Corporation have signed a collaborative agreement to begin delivering a pure battery electric version of the Ford Transit Connect van to customers in Europe beginning in late summer 2011. A plug-in hybrid-electric vehicle also to be introduced in 2013.

Southern California Edison (SCE) has become the newest addition to the Ford Transit Connect Electric LEAD customer program with a 20 unit order. SCE will take delivery of one of the limited supply of Ford Transit Connect Electric vans to be produced in late 2010 and will receive its remaining 19 vans in 2011.

Ford Motor Company will invest an additional $450 million in its electric vehicle plan, paving the way to build its next-generation hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicle vehicles in Michigan beginning in 2012. Transit Connect Electric will have a targeted range of up to 80 miles per full charge and zero tailpipe emissions.
