The Azure Balance system includes engine-off at idle and at below 20 mph (32 km/h), while electronically supporting key ancillary functions like air conditioning, power steering and braking. This project started about a month ago when I became co-chair of the Oregon Electric Vehicles Association. While people can purchase neighborhood electric vehicles today for about $10K, they only have a top speed of 35 miles an hour or so, essentially glorified golf-carts.

Currently, DOE data suggests that 90% of charging is done at home.

The SOLO has a range of 100 miles and a top speed of 80 mph, making it safe for highways. The company earlier introduced a new fleet and commercial version of the SOLO Cargo EV. ElectraMeccanica has a retail footprint in five western states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington.

Electric car supporters are rising to defend General Motors’ development of the Chevy Volt after the Obama Administration’s automotive task force proclaimed that the car was probably too expensive to be commercially successful in the near future. For $50k you can get a Tesla sedan which will get hundreds of miles strictly on electric.
