The 2010 Ford TransitConnect. Ford is introducing the North American version of the 2010 TransitConnectlightcommercial vehicle at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show this week. Ford is collaborating with Smith Electric Vehicles to bring the electric TransitConnect to market in North America in 2010.
California will a new category to its HVIP (Hybrid Incentive Voucher Program) that covers light-duty zero-emissions commercial vehicles (between 5,001 and 8,500 lbs GVWR)—e.g., Vouchers for the category will reach up to $15,000 for a fleet’s first voucher, with $12,000 thereafter for the remainder of FY 2010-11.
The company will assemble and market all-electric zero-emission commercial vehicles in North America, and said it will initially focus its production on battery-electric-powered vehicles for depot-based route delivery fleets. SEV US Corp will begin production using chassis from multiple vehicle manufacturers.
Ford will launch two zero-emission all-electric vehicles-the TransitConnect Electric lightcommercial van in North America in late 2010 and in Europe in 2011, followed by the Focus Electric passenger car in North America in 2011 and Europe in 2012.
