Ride-sharing company Lyft and driverless technology company Motional announced today the launch of the new all-electric Hyundai IONIQ 5-based robotaxi, which will offer fully driverless rides on Lyft’s Las Vegas network. Riders in Las Vegas can now experience Motional’s IONIQ 5 AV that will make that service a reality.

Hyundai Motor Company launched a global manifesto campaign called ‘Innovation Begins, from Very Human Things’ to share its vision for self-driving robotaxis. Hyundai and Motional plan to begin transporting public passengers in the IONIQ 5 robotaxi first in Las Vegas and then expanding to major cities in the US and globally.

Extrapolating these numbers implies the annual global datasphere will surge from 64 zettabytes in 2020 to an eye-popping 10,000 to 15,000 zettabytes in 2035—just from self-driving vehicles. 4% of the datasphere would be stored.
