The fuel engine on the Volt is used to run the generator to recharge the battery when a trip exceeds 40 miles, and it’s rage on a full tank is around 400 miles. April 18, 2009 1:40 am Link I drive a Saturn SL1 that has over 300K miles on it. How about using a competition sailplane for comparison, instead?

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles. Denmark did that with Wind Power and now most of their energy comes from wind rather than oil, natural gas, or coal. The first VCRs were well over a $1000.00

You could charge it with a coal -fired power plant, you could charge it with a trash incinerator, you can charge it with solar panels, wind power. Well, that's great. So you could charge it with a generator.
