Tesla has highlighted a Megapack project that went live in Hawaii earlier this year, which is effectively replacing the state’s last coal plant. Nearby Chairman Anthony Makana says that the BESS project allowed for the “sunsetting of one of the dirtiest polluters in our community,” referring to the coal plant.

My wife, Zan, and I were recently on the Big Island, Hawaii, and while there we toured the state’s only geothermal plant. Hawaii's 30 megawatt geothermal control room. There is no pollution to speak of with these plants. The rest of Hawaii’s electricity is generated by burning oil. URL: [link].

When Tesla unveiled the Megapack, the company positioned it as a battery that had the potential to render traditional coal and gas-fired peaker plants obsolete.
