Growth in oil use, particularly aviation, and coal use are behind most of the increase in 2022. During the Global Financial Crisis in 2008/9, the COVID19 pandemic, and now the Ukrainian War, economic stimulus packages were meant to put the world on a cleaner and greener path, but this is not at all evident in the CO 2 emissions data.

Fifty years later, the USA is faced with a similar challenge, energy independency and climatic change. On December 16, 2010 the US DOE Energy Information Agency (EIA) published a report projecting that renewable energy will still only constitute 12 percent of the USA’s energy sources by 2035. mpg by 2016. As our planet’s atmosphere overheats because the greenhouse gas firewall we’ve built by burning fossil fuels works so damn well, there is one secret weapon we can all still whip out if we want to fight back and try to save ourselves from frying. Big Dick did all this while knowing full well the damage burning fossil fuels does.

And just like Woody, I’d like to sing you a song about a better way… My friends, with greenhouse gas emissions already in the danger zone, we needed to stop burning Killer Coal yesterday. Seems like a perfect use for some stimulus money, don’t it? 2007 USA electric energy fuel mix.
