There are four guidelines to follow: Refrain from using or burning oil, gas or coal. If an EV is charged with electricity that is generated from renewable sources (such as solar, wind, geothermal, or hydroelectric), then there are no fossil fuel emissions associated with that charging or driving process. They’re safer.

Just as PEV batteries are expensive, the utility infrastructure has finite capacity to meet ever-growing electricity needs, and the majority of this system is powered by coal and natural gas generators. Guidelines should be defined for minimum required system durations in these roles.
