Toyota has had a battery recycling program since 1998 and even offers dealers a $200 bounty to ensure batteries arent just thrown away (described at end of linked document). What about battery safety?

MidAmericans David Sokol, BYDs Wang, and company advisor Li Lu flew with Sokol from Detroit to Omaha so that Wang could meet Buffett in person. His people at MidAmerican have studied clean technologies like batteries and wind power for years because of the threat of climate change. The E6 will hit the Chinese market later this year.
