Mercedes-Benz is expanding its green power portfolio in cooperation with the energy supplier Enovos and the Norwegian energy producer Statkraft. From 2022 onwards, the company will purchase electricity in Germany which comes exclusively from renewable sources.

Mercedes-Benz Cars has entered into a power purchase agreement with Statkraft, Europe’s largest producer of renewable energy, enabling Mercedes-Benz Cars to source electricity directly from wind farms in Germany, whose subsidies from the Renewable Energy Act (EEG) expire after 2020.

At its first digital ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) Conference for investors and analysts, Mercedes-Benz announced aims to at least halve CO 2 emissions per passenger car over the lifecycle by the end of this decade compared to 2020 levels. This proportion can be reduced significantly through the use of renewable energy.

In Germany, all Mercedes-Benz plants will be supplied with CO 2 -neutral energy. From 2022, the production of our Mercedes-Benz plants in Germany will operate CO 2 -neutral. Thereby, we completely forego coal-based electricity and obtain our electrical energy from only renewable sources. The plant will start operating in 2019.

This is only useful after your on some other renewable source of electricity or using nuclear.
