Mercedes-Benz is expanding its green power portfolio in cooperation with the energy supplier Enovos and the Norwegian energy producer Statkraft. From 2022 onwards, the company will purchase electricity in Germany which comes exclusively from renewable sources.

In Germany, all Mercedes-Benz plants will be supplied with CO 2 -neutral energy. From 2022, the production of our Mercedes-Benz plants in Germany will operate CO 2 -neutral. Thereby, we completely forego coal-based electricity and obtain our electrical energy from only renewable sources.

At its first digital ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) Conference for investors and analysts, Mercedes-Benz announced aims to at least halve CO 2 emissions per passenger car over the lifecycle by the end of this decade compared to 2020 levels. This proportion can be reduced significantly through the use of renewable energy.

The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team recently concluded a trial in the use of biofuels in 16 Mercedes Actros Gigaspace race trucks for the final three races of the European season. Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO 100) fuel is a 100% renewable fossil fuel free product derived from vegetable oils, waste oils and fats.

The lifecycle CO 2 balance of the Mercedes-Benz EQC 400 4MATIC is as low as 17.1 environmental check by Mercedes; the results were verified by TÜV Süd. Compared to current electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, Mercedes-Benz intends to reduce the use of primary resources in the powertrain and battery technology by 40% by 2030.

Mercedes-Benz Cars has entered into a power purchase agreement with Statkraft, Europe’s largest producer of renewable energy, enabling Mercedes-Benz Cars to source electricity directly from wind farms in Germany, whose subsidies from the Renewable Energy Act (EEG) expire after 2020.
