According to a new study published by the ifo Institue Center for Economic Studies (CESifo) in Germany, EVs will barely help cut CO 2 emissions in the country over the coming years, as the introduction of electric vehicles does not necessarily lead to a reduction in CO 2 emissions from road traffic given the current power generation mix.

The CO 2 will come from CEMEX’s Rüdersdorf cement plant in Germany, which will provide 100 tons of CO 2 per day in the project’s first phase. To reach carbon neutrality, these emissions must be captured, stored, or repurposed in some way. ENERTRAG is a renewable-energy company based in Brandenburg, Germany.

This technology is being investigated in a parallel project together with RWTH Aachen University researching the viability of different DME generation methods, looking at conversion efficiency, estimated fuel prices and infrastructure aspects. Like liquefied petroleum gas, DME must be stored in a slightly pressurized tank.

CO 2 emissions from the ammonia industry alone amount to approximately 200 million tons per year—by comparison, Germany generates around 800 million tons of carbon dioxide per year. Alternatively, black carbon can be stored away, using procedures that are much simpler, safer and cheaper than the storing of carbon dioxide.

With the demise of the North Sea production as the fields empty we are increasingly reliant on the pipe that winds its way across Europe pumping Russian gas into Germany, France and other on route. Most countries regards Gas as strategic and store plenty of the stuff to cover supply disruptions. No Storage.
