T&E has commissioned Emissions Analytics to test three of the most popular PHEVs sold in 2019: a BMW X5 (longest EV range PHEV available), a Volvo XC60 and the Mitsubishi Outlander. Plug-in hybrids are fake electric cars, built for lab tests and tax breaks, not real driving.

Australia finally gets a petrol-electric hybrid 4×4 dual-cab ute mid-year when the GWM Cannon Alpha launches. LDV has had the 4×2 battery electric eT60 on-sale since 2022 but it is super-expensive and low on range. Other electrified utes, such as a PHEV Mitsubishi Triton are confirmed to be under development.
