But more recently it has struggled to gain access to EVs because of the absence of a federally mandated CO2 emissions reduction structure and purchase subsidies. As expected, the combination of fewer diesel registrations and more SUVs continued to have an impact on emissions. Despite an increase of EV models contributing positively to emission levels, the move away from diesel had a negative impact, one that the market could not offset. All other powertrains lost volume YoY, with petrol-only vehicles at their 2nd lowest volume of the modern era (just 112 units), and 3rd lowest share ever, just 1.25% of the auto market. Looking at unit volumes, against the background of a 7.7% overall market drop YoY, BEVs grew volume by 3.7% to 7,471 units.

A Nissan Patrol emitting 334g/km would cop a massive $19,300 penalty. per cent per annum on average from 199g/km to 81g/km.

The RAC Foundation reports it currently costs – on average – around £80 to fill up a vehicle with petrol or diesel (based on a 55 litre fuel tank). It’s more expensive to fill up with petrol once, than it is to charge an electric car eight times. An EV with a 50kWh battery? £7 7 worth of electricity.

In a completely disrupted market, while diesel (-31% YoY) and petrol (-20%) were down in December, all electrified categories were shooting up, with HEVs up 133% YoY, while PHEVs jumped six-fold(!), and BEVs did even better, jumping 7-fold(!!!) is it, self registrations?
